Where the Yellow Violets Grow

Where the Yellow Violets Grow

When a WWII Red Cross nurse stationed in England falls in love with an infantry man injured in France, the war, a debilitating wound, and a jealous commanding officer threaten to destroy them.

Petworth, England 1944. First Lieutenant Janet Castner is assigned to a small hospital unit when Operation Overload begins. Amid the turbulence of nursing the critically wounded GIs arriving from Normandy, her arrogant commanding officer takes her aside and asserts his love for her. Passions flare when he wrongly suspects she and another officer are having an affair. Unbeknown to the major, Janet has instead sworn her love to a seriously injured infantry man, Sergeant Lou Morrissey. When the major discovers their clandestine romance, he wields his authority in order to destroy their lives forever. Based on actual letters written by Lieutenant Janet Castner during WWII.

From the Author:
A (sweet) historical romance. The novel is based on a true story, which has been fictionalize in part. The greater portion of the novel comes from over 100 letters Lieutenant Castner wrote between autumn 1944 until the summer of 1945, as well as newspaper articles that were saved, and stories that had been passed down orally to her daughter, Mary, and dictated to me, her sister-in-law. Technical Sergeant Louis Morrissey served in the 29th division during the invasion of Normandy, the hedgerow battles and the battle of St. Lo.

About the Author:
D.L. Gardner artist, author and screenwriter. She writes primarily fantasy novels including all sub genres, with a love for historical fantasy. Her latest book is historical romance. A lover of the classics, both visual and literary, she believes a story should be good enough to hand down from one generation to the next, and so focuses mainly on print editions, creating them to be works of visual art as well as literary art. Winner of Book Excellence Award, Best Urban fantasy at Imaginarium Convention, and a host of screenings and trophies for her historical fiction screenplay Cassandra’s Castle.
